Signing in with a passkey
Sign in on the Colitu website with a fingerprint, face or device PIN instead of typing a password; adding and removing passkeys, and the limits.
A passkey is a way to sign in without typing your password: your browser asks for your fingerprint, face or device PIN. The private key never leaves your device; Colitu's servers keep only the public key.
Adding a passkey
- Open colitu.com/account/security (Account → Security).
- In the Passkey section, click Add passkey.
- Give the passkey a name (for example "MacBook") and enter your password in the Current password field. Adding a passkey asks you to confirm your password.
- Click Create passkey and confirm as your browser asks (fingerprint, face or PIN).
You can add up to 10 passkeys; delete one to add another. A device cannot register a second passkey for the same account.
Signing in with a passkey
On the login page click Sign in with a passkey and confirm the browser's prompt.
- A passkey with user verification (fingerprint, face or PIN) counts as two factors, so you are not asked for a verification code, even if two-step verification is on for your account.
- A sign-in from a country not seen in the last 90 days still asks for the code sent to your e-mail, even with a passkey.
- A sign-in may send a security e-mail to your address; see Account security.
Deleting a passkey
On colitu.com/account/security click Delete next to the passkey and confirm with your password. A deleted passkey can no longer sign in; you may also need to remove its entry from your device. You receive a security e-mail when a passkey is added or removed.
Limits
- Passkeys work on colitu.com only. They do not work on mirror domains; sign in with your password there.
- The Colitu apps sign in with e-mail and password (and two-step verification) as before. You can also sign in to an app by approving the device-link QR code from a browser that is signed in with a passkey.
- If your browser does not support passkeys, use an up-to-date browser.
