Protocols explained

Colitu uses four modern protocols and automatically chooses the one that suits your network. If a protocol is blocked, it moves on to the next without you doing anything.

#Hysteria2

• Transport: QUIC (UDP), encrypted with TLS 1.3.
• Strength: very fast on lossy, high-latency mobile networks and efficient at peak hours.
• When: first choice by default.

#VLESS Reality

• Transport: TCP with XTLS Vision.
• Strength: from the outside the connection looks like an ordinary HTTPS visit to a large, popular website. Very resilient on networks that use deep packet inspection (DPI).
• When: networks that restrict UDP or block Hysteria2.

#Trojan

• Transport: TLS over TCP with a valid certificate.
• Strength: with the Chrome TLS fingerprint the traffic is indistinguishable from normal HTTPS.
• When: fallback when the other two do not work.

#Shadowsocks (2022)

• Transport: TCP and UDP, AES-256-GCM.
• Strength: light and compatible.
• When: last fallback.

#How automatic selection works

1. Colitu tries the server's protocols in order of preference.
2. It remembers the last one that worked, so the next connection is almost instant.
3. After connecting it checks that the tunnel really carries internet traffic. If not, it quietly switches to the next protocol.

Protocol choice balances speed and reachability; you do not need to set anything by hand.
