Simple mode and Advanced mode

The two views in the Colitu apps: Simple mode shows only what you need, Advanced mode opens every setting. What each mode shows, how to switch with one tap, and the defaults.

The Colitu apps have two modes: Simple mode and Advanced mode. Simple mode puts everything you need to connect on one screen. Advanced mode adds all the other settings on top, such as split tunnelling, the kill switch and multihop. This feature is in the latest versions of the apps and exists in the Windows, Linux, Android (including TV) and iOS apps. The browser extension has no such split.

What does each mode show?

Some rows exist only in some apps; for example the kill switch and DNS protection are on desktop. To see which feature is on which platform, see Features by platform.

How do I switch between the modes?

With one tap and without reconnecting:

  • From Simple mode

tap the small Advanced mode button at the bottom of Home.

  • In both directions

use the switch at the very top of Settings. On Android this switch is on the Account tab.

Switching modes doesn't drop a live connection.

Hidden settings keep working

Going back to Simple mode doesn't turn off the advanced settings, it only hides them. If you turn on split tunnelling and then switch to Simple mode, split tunnelling keeps working.

That is why, while an advanced setting is active, the Home screen of Simple mode shows an Advanced settings on line. It appears when:

  • split tunnelling is active,
  • a multihop route is active,
  • exit rotation (changing IP) is active,
  • on desktop, the kill switch is blocking internet access.

Tap the line to open the settings concerned.

If you selected a multihop route before switching to Simple mode, the next connection uses the automatic server. The live connection is not dropped.

Defaults

  • New installs start in Simple mode.
  • People who update the app stay in Advanced mode, so they keep seeing what they had before.

Warm spare in Simple mode

Warm spare is always on in Simple mode. If you want to turn it off, switch on Advanced mode first.

FAQ

Does Simple mode make the connection weaker?

No. In both modes the same Colitu Adaptive Connect manages the connection. The only difference is which settings are shown.

Do my split tunnelling settings disappear in Simple mode?

No. The settings are hidden but keep working. You will see the Advanced settings on line on Home.

I can't find a setting.

Switch on Advanced mode. Simple mode deliberately shows only the basic settings.

Do I need to reconnect when I change the mode?

No.
