Notes
- In TUN mode (All traffic (TUN)). On Linux, TUN mode asks for your sudo password when connecting.
- Uses Android's own Always-on VPN and Block connections without VPN settings. Colitu opens the system screen where they live.
- iOS has Always-on protection: if the VPN drops, iOS reconnects it right away. iOS has no separate "start at boot" option for apps; Always-on protection keeps the VPN on.
- TUN mode only, using
nftables. - The Android app has no start-at-boot option of its own. To have the VPN come up when the device starts, use Android's Always-on VPN setting.
Other differences
- Local network: on Windows, iOS and Linux you can still reach devices on your local network, such as printers, a NAS or a smart TV, while the VPN is on.
- Russian sites: in the Windows and Android apps, Russian sites automatically open directly, outside the VPN. This is built in and has no setting. From version 2.5.3 the exception is the Moscow server: while you are connected to it, Russian sites go through the tunnel and see a Moscow address. The Linux app has no such rule: all traffic goes through the VPN.
Not supported
- macOS: there is no Colitu app for Mac at the moment.
- Routers: not supported.
- Split tunneling / per-app VPN: not available in any app. Details and alternatives: Split tunneling.
- Fire TV: the Android app has not been officially tested on Fire TV.
