Streaming services decide what you can watch based on the address you connect from. Colitu checks the most popular services on every server automatically, so you can see in advance which server works.

How Colitu checks streaming services

  • Every server tests Netflix and YouTube Premium every 6 hours, from its own internet exit address, the same address you appear from when connected.
  • The Netflix check passes only if licensed titles open, not just Netflix's own productions.
  • The results appear on colitu.com/servers as tags such as ✓ Netflix and ✓ YouTube Premium. Each server's page also shows the time of the last test.
  • The Streaming category is assigned automatically from these checks.

A ✓ means the check passed at the last test. Services change their rules, so a result can change before the next test.

Choosing the right server

  1. Open colitu.com/servers and choose the Streaming category.
  2. Pick a server with a ✓ for your service and look at the time of the last test.
  3. In the Colitu app, connect to that location. On Android you can also use the Streaming filter on the Locations tab.

The catalogue depends on the server's country

Streaming services show the catalogue of the country your address is in. A server in another country can show different films and series. If you are looking for a particular title, connect to a server in a country where that service offers it.

Your account's region rules

Your streaming account has its own rules, such as the country of your payment method, the country the plan was bought in, or whether YouTube Premium is offered in a country. Colitu cannot change your account's country. Please follow the terms of use of each service.

Video won't play or the service shows an error

  • Sign out of the service and sign in again.
  • Clear the service's cookies, or try a private (incognito) window.
  • Turn off Secure DNS in the browser, and check for DNS and WebRTC leaks at colitu.com/tools.
  • Services may notice when your device's time zone or language doesn't match the server's country.
  • On a phone or TV, close the service's app completely after connecting and open it again.
  • On Windows, a desktop app may ignore the system proxy. Turn on TUN mode so all its traffic goes through the tunnel. See Using Colitu on Windows.
  • Try another server with a ✓ for the service.

Smart TV and Android TV

  • Android TV and Google TV are supported. The same Android app runs with a TV interface that you control with the remote. To install it, open the Downloader app on the TV and enter colitu.com/tv; it downloads the current app.
  • To sign in, scan the QR code shown on the TV with your phone and approve the sign-in in your Colitu account. You can also enter the code shown on the TV at app.colitu.com/link.
  • The VPN covers the whole TV, so the Netflix and YouTube apps on it go through Colitu. The TV uses one device slot of your plan.
  • Fire TV is not officially tested, routers are not supported, and there is no Colitu app for TVs with other operating systems. See macOS, TV, routers and other platforms.

Buffering and low quality

  • Choose a server closer to you that has a ✓ for the service. Distance affects speed the most.
  • On colitu.com/servers, prefer a server with low load.
  • Colitu tries Hysteria2 first, a connection mode that keeps throughput up on lossy links such as busy Wi-Fi or mobile networks. Colitu picks the mode automatically; there is nothing to set.
  • For a TV, a cable connection or a router nearby helps a lot.
  • After you connect, give the player a few seconds: most services adjust the quality to your speed automatically.
